Assignment 0.7 | 3D Max | Animation
For this animation I used the idea of light and its three components red, green, and blue. By swirling these lights in and out of each other it portrays every color in the spectrum. By having moving white balls it creates something for the light to bounce off of as well as shadows which helped to make the image more interesting and helped to create even more color combination's by breaking up the light. The chaotic nature of the movement, the many color combination's, as well as the dream like qualities the music and shadows evoke make for a a spiritual scene. I did not create the song but I don't know who the artist is. I am not taking credit, and I thank whoever created the soundtrack.

This is a drawing done for me by my good friend. It is a comic book character that we invented together named The Drifter. In this pannel The Drifter is destroying evil by killing the Satan. This is very inspiring to me because it took him only 5 or 10 minutes to draw this, it takes me at least an our to draw one of my sketches and as you can it does not come close to this.

This is the first movie I ever made on Final Cut. I was 12 or 13 and got the program from one of my teachers. We made the movie in his neighborhood using a tripod to film. The soundtrack is from the Spiderman movie. It is such bad quality because I had to over-compress it in order to fit on the blog.

This is very interesting to me because I have seen this knot in the library of shapes in 3D studio max, but seeing it like this actually looks like a real image and not a 3D rendering. the lighting and reflection make this image very interesting.

The next in my series of story boards, the group of my grandfathers brothers are confronted by a German officer who picks the oldest of the brothers (second in the family under my grandfather) to work for him. He is told that he is lucky, but is as of now unaware of why being picked to work is lucky.

This movie I made with one of my friends. He had an assignment for one of his classes, he had to make a movie with no words and he asked me for help. Neither of us had any ideas so we started without any story line, and ended with no real story line, but we made it as shocking as we could for the small Catholic School. Even the name "Another Victim of Santa Style" has no real meaning, we came up with it after looking at a postcard I had in my room, and thought it was a funny addition to the movie. When my friend turned in this assignment, not only did they refuse to show it class, but they called my friend in for a psychiatric evaluation in front of the entire administration and decided that he was sane. This entire movie was really designed to see what my Jewish friend, the student body president of a catholic school, could get away with showing, eventually the movie was shown in the class by the teacher.

This lighting fixture makes great use of lights and shadows in order to create an ascetically pleasing and interesting sight. instead of only giving light, this piece withholds light as well, making it a great example of what I want to do with my project, create interest not only with my use of light but also the use of the dark lack of light, shadows. This is an example of an innovative and interesting lighting fixture.

This is another film I made for my film class, however I was never able to complete this movie so I only have a trailer. I made this using my friends as actors.

After messing with 3D studio for a while and seeing my results, I looked on the internet to see what can be done with the program. I found these images and many more like them. They baffle me, I don't understand how they can make such complex forms and keep them looking realistic. I am sure they are using many tricks that I am yet to learn, but the idea of making images like this is very intriguing to me and drives me to learn more about the program.

Assignment 5 SketchUp Red Blue Chair
These three images are of my replication of the Red Blue Chair. Using SketchUp and blueprints of the chair I created a scale 3D image of the chair. I colored the bottom and back the traditional blue and red, but the frame I changed up, the vertical faces are yellow and the horizontal faces are green. This makes the chair look a different color at a different angle, and also helps to clear up the framework making it easier to visualize as 3D.

This film was made with my film 1 class at the Santa Fe Community College. We were given a script of dialogue, but were told to create a story through the acting, filming and editing. When every group was done we presented several different stories with the same dialogue, highlighting the importance of the visuals in story telling not just what is being said. I helped to shape the story, was director of photography, and edited his film while the rest of my group acted, directed, and handled the sound.

I was greatly inspired by the presenter from Image Works we had the pleasure to have in class on Wednesday. Film making is what I have always wanted to do, but I have never really thought of that aspect of blended cinema. Listening to what she had to said and seeing the break down of how the movies were created really enticed me to consider this as a career path. I hope to learn more in this class about the programs used to create these movies.

Yet another story board for the movie I would like to make. The family is separated more when the group of boys that were captured together are separated and searched. This movie is a long way off considering the budget would be millions of dollars, however I feel it is important to remember the story and the way I am imagine it in order to use when I have the means. These drawing though primitive at best convey the idea of how each shot happens in my head.

I was in need of inspiration about what to write for this blog, so I Googled the word Inspiration. I didn't think I would actually find anything but I found this picture, which truly is inspiring to me. Not just in the more metaphorical way, that this man is holding the sun over this city in a very majestic manner, but it also drives me to try to figure out how this is done, is it just a great angle or did they apply some digital program to it.

Another storyboard of my grandfathers story in the Holocaust, in sequence, this would be the 2nd part of the 2nd scene, in which the Nazis burst into the house, and despite all the protagonists best efforts and selfless acts all manage to get caught. This is the first chaotic scene of the movie where everyone in the family is separated from each other, many of which never to see each other again.
Assignment 3 Illustrator
For this assignment I didn't use internet safe colors, hence the discoloration, however it doesn't change the image much. I used a higher line weight for vectors closer forward and smaller ones for farther lines, by outlining the shadows and giving them a darker fill it creates depth. The mix between the real image and the illustration is very interesting and creates a surreal composition, unable to tell if it is real or just a drawing.

This is the official website for the recent film directed by Quentin Tarantino and staring Brad Pitt, both of whom I have tremendous respect for, entitled Inglorious Bastards. This might not be considered a good film by all, but it is entertaining, well shot, well thought out, vengeful, and fits in quite well with the script about my grandfathers struggle in the Holocaust I have been working on story boarding for. Many of my ideas in my story board and script are drawn form this movie as well as movies of this kind.

This is a web site for a new Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones film, directed by Tommy Lee Jones, and written by one of my favorite writers Cormac McCarthy. It is a play in which two men debate the worth of there lives called "The Sunset Limited." This movie is being filmed in Santa Fe New Mexico, my home town, and I happen to see the rough footage of one of the days of filming from that day. It was an extremely straight foward scene but being an editor I couldn't help but imaging editing the film myself. I actually spent that following night having increadibaly vivid dreams about editing that scene.

Assignment 2 Haptic Modeling
Structure: These models desplay different structures. One is a very solid structure with many triangles (the strongest shape) and two cross beams. The other is a much weaker yet still holds structural inegrity, however it is more interesting to the eye.
Rhythm: Both of these models have a pattern to them, it may vary in magnitude and shape but the same key elements are in every beat. Your eye is taken up and down each incline, creating a rhythm in the observers head.
Melody: When I think of melody, I think of the beauty in music, as opposed to the necessary framework that structure and rhythm provide. Both of these models have a whimsical quality to them that is very pleasant to the eye and I believe captures the audience with beauty the same way a great melody can capture millions.

In a similar way as the last post this image involves interpretation rather than just intake. Immediately upon seeing this image I couldn't tell what it was supposed to be, it took me about two seconds to put the shapes together and gain a general understanding of the sculpture. But even after about five minutes looking at it, I can not exactly say what the artist was thinking when he created this piece. This is the beauty behind abstract art, past just the face value of its shapes, it is open to individual understanding and interpretation.

This is an abstract sculpture that may have more form than our latest assignment calls for, however this image still captures my eye. In art I love when the image is implied but isn't necessarily shown leaving interpretation and the meaning completely up to the observer. If this sculpture was just of a normal person it wouldn't be nearly as intriguing, you could look at for half a second and fully understand it. By removing the torso it is not an immediately recognizable shape, and therefor necessitates for more time to absorb the image, and with this extended time frame a much deeper understanding comes about.SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2009
